How old do I have to be to get a library card?

Dear Circ,

How old do I have to be to get a library card? My mom thinks I'm not old enough yet. I'm not quite big enough for school, but I do know all my letters. My mom said I should ask you.

 Little Jackie Paper (age 4)

P.S. I have a friend named Puff who wants a library card too. He's lots older than me. Could he have a card too?

Dear Jackie,

Having a library card is a big responsibility, but it doesn't depend on how old you are. Having a library card does depend on Mom or Dad saying it's ok. If Mom or Dad want to come in and talk to us about it, they are more than welcome to visit. We do have children younger than you with cards and we have things for children of all ages. We even have books that you can listen to, and books that you can listen to and read at the same time, just right for new readers to practice on. Just remember you do have to bring them back, our library is for sharing!

P.S. That friend of yours named Puff, is he big, green, and just a bit of rascal? Sails a ship sometimes? He doesn't need a card. He comes in pretty often, and we do love a good frolic.
