Where did the new books go??
I came to the library for my weekly visit. I visit once a week, whether I need to or not! My first stop is always the new books. What do I find? Rows of boxes! OMG! What have you done? Where are the new books? Are they in back now, I think you call it the stacks? I don't know if I can handle that, the new books are my favorites!
Perplexed on Park Street
First of all, don't panic, you did the right thing, you asked Dear Circ.
To answer your question, the new books - fiction, non-fiction, biographies – are on the west wall of the first floor of the library, next to the stairs. Closest to the windows, you'll find new fiction, then new non-fiction, and finally new biographies. We've switched the signs that hang from the ceiling, and there are some additional signs here and there, but it's a work in progress.
Why did we do this? Well, primarily to enhance browsing. All the new books are now closer to eye-level, and much easier to find and well, browse. Not only did we move the books up, but we have quite a few more facing out, easier to see that catchy title at a glance, or check out the cover. We've also added a cluster of comfy chairs, perfect to sit down in and read a few pages, and decide if the books you've chosen are just your “cup of tea” so to speak. And the newest issue of “Bookpage” is right on the end table, in case you need a few suggestions.
By the way, a visit to the library should not be like the Saturday night bath. Get a little crazy, just come on in and say hi. After all, our house is your house!
