What is National Library Week...?

I was in early this week and saw a sign for National Library Week. It listed activities, programs, and even a giveaway. What's going on? I love libraries, I should know this. What's National Library Week?
National Library Week is our annual celebration of all things library. It started back in 1958 to highlight libraries across the nation, to promote literacy, and celebrate our libraries in their efforts to make reading materials accessible to everyone. These days we provide access to more than just reading materials, from books, downloadables, music, DVDs to computers and internet access, although access to information is still one of our primary goals.
This year at the Roselle Library, we're celebrating our library by introducing our science kits. Our theme is "Know & Grow" and we're having a special open house on Sunday, April 9, 1-4 p.m. so our patrons can come in see the new kits. We'll start checking the kits out to folks on April 10. We also have some other special programs through out the week and a drawing for a giveaway - a Kindle Fire! You can enter the drawing just by using the library during National Library Week. National Library Week is from April 9 through April 15. So come in and visit us, find out about the science kits, or just give us a friendly hello.
We're having a party, all week long, and you're invited!

Do you have questions about the Roselle Public Library? Want advice about how to manage your account? How to find things? Want to know more about what we can offer you? Or worse, are you just lost in library jargon, and not even sure what to ask? Here's our forum for how to get the most from us, your local library. You can submit questions online to Dear Circ, or, as always, in person, or by phone (630-529-1641). Posted questions will be anonymous. Responses reflect the policies and programs of the Roselle Public Library, and may have no relevance to the policies, services, and procedures at any other library.
