Is there a new fee schedule for DVDs...??

Dear Readers,

"Dear Circ..." is on vacation. But here is one of our favorite posts, and we hope, one of yours.

Dear Circ,

I came in to the library, hanging my head in shame, ready to burn the plastic off my debit card, and thinking about how many times my family was going to eat hotdogs and beans for dinner. I had six DVDs that were a week late -- GAH! One of the "elves" that lives in my house moved the library bag, and whoops, they were mislaid, and then completely forgotten. But my gosh, I thought, 42 big ones, for that?

When I remorsefully returned my DVDs, and explained the situation, the person behind the counter told me my account balance was only $10.50, much to my surprise. Needless to say, I didn't argue, but paid my fee and ran. Pheeewww! Not so bad, I guess we won't end up with scurvy this month. But now, I can't contain myself, I just gotta ask, did the fee schedule change for DVDs? What's going on here?

Les Poor

Dear Les,

Yes, we were correct, your late fee was $10.50, 25 cents per day per DVD. At the October 2016 Board meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to lower the late fee to 25 cents per day on regular DVDs, and the new fee schedule became effective immediately. This is only true for DVDs that check out for one week. The late fee for a Quick Pick is still $1 per day. Be aware, the fee change is not retroactive. So if a patron has previously accumulated a large account balance for late DVDs prior to that meeting, their account balance still stands and needs to be paid.

We're glad you're paid up, and look forward to seeing you often! You might want to have a chat with those elves and negotiate a payment trade off. Household chores are abundant and elves can be especially handy to have around.

Dear Readers,
Are you wondering about the image above? No, these people are not "Dear Circ" and are not employed by the Roselle Public Library. Nor are they our patrons. The adult above is a famous screen writer, as well, as actor, director, cinematographer and composer. The child became a famous child actor with the release of "The Kid" in 1921, and continued to act through out his life. Place your mouse cursor on the photo for the names of the screen writer and his co-star. Left click the image for an enlargement. For more information about these people, go here and here. Do you have questions about the Roselle Public Library? Want advice about how to manage your account? How to find things? Want to know more about what we can offer you? Or worse, are you just lost in library jargon, and not even sure what to ask? Here's our forum for how to get the most from us, your local library. You can submit questions online to Dear Circ, or, as always, in person, or by phone (630-529-1641). Posted questions will be anonymous.
